Our Tips for Spring Cleaning Your Closet!

Hello everyone!

While it certainly doesn't look or feel like Spring outside, the warm weather will soon be upon us. The change in seasons is the perfect time to do a little cleaning and give your wardrobe a breath of fresh air.

It is always a good idea to stop and take stock of what you currently have before going out to purchase new items. This will save you a lot of time, money and frustration!

We want to share with you some tips to keep in mind when going through your closet that should make cleaning a little bit easier and help you find some new life in your clothes.

Tip #1: Less is more - focus on keeping a smaller number of high quality, versatile pieces.

Fewer items mean less time and stress deciding what to wear. You want to make sure all of the items in your closest fit you well, are in good condition, flatter your silhouette, and make you feel ready to take on the world. Having more pieces that coordinate well together is best, so try to stick to complimentary colour schemes and styles. The idea or goal is to try and build a "capsule" wardrobe - which you can read more about here.

If you don't know your style, separate out your "LOVE IT and would wear it right now" pieces and you will likely very quickly start to see some trends or get a better idea of what makes you feel the most "you!"

If all this sounds overwhelming, well you will love our next tip...

Tip #2: Come in for a Style Consultation!

We can help you learn about your body type and what styles work well with your figure. We can also help to identify those key pieces that every wardrobe should have and, if there are a few favourite pieces in your closet that you don't know how to wear, we can help to put together outfits that work. We will be honest with you about what looks good and what doesn't because we want you to step outside feeling your best and empowered every single day.

Our style consults typically last about 2 hours. During that time, we make sure that you have our entire store to yourself for a customized, private shopping experience. We will also send you home with a document that contains more information on your body type, as well as our tips, tricks and advice. This makes sure you have everything you need to put together outfits at home on your own. Best of all - it only costs $75! If you would like to book a session, please call the store at 519 820 2874. You can also find more info on our website here.

Tip #3: When you decide to say goodbye, don't throw the clothing away!

More than 13 million tonnes of clothing ends up in landfills each year - so don't throw those old pieces away! There are so many amazing things that you can do to find them a better home. Here are a few:

- Host a clothing swap. Get your friends together, have everyone bring clothing or items they no longer want/use, and then SWAP! This is also a great opportunity to find some new goodies for yourself and an excuse to spend time with the lovely people in your life (or make new friends too!).

Make some $$ at a Consignment Shop! Our favourite places in Guelph: Wild Rosethe Attic, the Patch, & Plato's Closet

Turn it into something new! There are a lot of designers and companies that can help you give new life to old pieces by upcycling it into a completely new piece. That bridesmaid dress you will never wear again could become a beautiful throw pillow or blouse! Want to do it locally? Kat from Fred and Bean is our favourite.
