Sharing Stories Week 2 - Our Favourite Green Warriors

Hello everyone!

This holiday season at Grey Rock, we are sharing some of our stories with you. They are the driving force behind why WE do what we do and, frankly, at this time of year when the days are shorter and the weather is gross, we all need a bit more feel-good moments!

This week we wanted to focus on our "green" stories. Sweatshop-free emphasizes putting people over profit, but many of our brands also choose to have a triple bottom line that commits to caring about the planet and ensuring their manufacturing and company practices are sustainable. So, we wanted to highlight some our favourite eco-friendly warriors and share their story with you. When purchasing from these brands, you can rest assured knowing that you are helping to improve not only the living conditions of their workers, but also of our lovely Mother Earth.

Enjoy and we will see you next week!
Happy Holidays.

Sustainable Clothing

Ten Tree Clothing

This brand is a fairly recent addition to our Grey Rock family and we carry items for both men and women! We were so happy to welcome another Canadian company into our shop.

Ten Tree's mission is to inspire a generation to create tangible change through their buying choices. For every item that is sold, they commit to planting 10 trees in areas that have been negatively affected by deforestation (e.g., Nepal, Madagascar, Haiti and even Canada, just to name a few).

They are a fellow certified B-corporation and their goal is to "become the most environmentally progressive brand on the planet". They use sustainable fabrics like organic cotton, recycled polyester, cork, hemp or even coconut! They want to reduce the negative impact of the apparel industry by showing that there is a better way to make and sell clothing.

Featured on the left is their super comfy sweatpants, which we carry for both men and women.  Come and visit the store to try on one of their pieces today!

Patagonia

This brand is an industry leader in showcasing how to make clothing in an ethical, sustainable fashion. Their mission is to build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis that exists around the world.

They take this commitment very seriously and audit all the materials and methods used in the manufacturing process to make sure they have a low environmental footprint. They also take responsibility for the entire lifecycle of their products, which means they want to make sure that their products last as long as possible. This means helping you make any necessary repairs or replacements to your item - even if it is years after the purchase.

Finally, it also means that they consistently examine how they use resources at their buildings and facilities. They are very transparent with their company practices and you can actually go behind the scenes on their website to learn about their construction techniques, energy use, water use, employee transportation, and more! We weren't kidding - these guys give new meaning to the term Green Warrior!

On the right, Dallas is wearing their super warm Tres Parka in black. We still have a few in stock, so come in to grab yours today and stay cozy all winter long!

United By Blue

Even though this brand is super green, they are all about the blue! They believe that we are all united by the blue of our world's oceans and waterways, and we all share the responsibility of protecting them.

For every item sold, UBB is committed to removing one pound of trash from the world's oceans and waterways through the company's organized clean-ups. The kit on the left is what they gave away this year on "Blue Friday" (otherwise known as Black Friday to most shoppers) and invited their customers to clean up their local parks and pick up trash instead of heading out to the mall.

In addition, they also make all their products from sustainable fabrics such as organic cotton, recycled polyester, and bison fiber (seriously - come check out their Bison Down socks.... so comfy and warm!).

We carry items in this brand for both men and women. They are most well known for some pretty awesome graphic tees, plaid shirts, and cozy sweaters. Come visit us to see it for yourself today!
