“We are sorry for the inconvenience, but this is a revolution.”
Three years ago this month, the deadliest garment factory incident in history occurred. Known as the Rana Plaza Collapse, over 1130 lives were lost in Dhaka, Bangladesh when a garment factory, known for supplying popular fashion brands like Joe Fresh, collapsed after repeated warnings from staff to supervisors about the conditions of the building. Since then, April has been dedicated to revolutionizing actions towards improving the livelihoods and environmental conditions impacted by the fashion industry.
At Grey Rock, we want to honour the lives lost, and changes needed, by dedicating our blog and social media for the month to the Fashion Revolution Movement. Started in response to the collapse, the Fashion Revolution wants to engage you in asking the question we always encourage: Who made your clothes?
This month, we want to provide you with knowledge, tools, and skills to know more about your clothing. You will read about Fast Fashion and its detrimental global impact. Then, you'll learn about books, blogs, and apps you can use to help you buy smarter and learn more about who makes your clothes. As always, we encourage you to come in and chat to us about your thoughts and opinions on the revolution. We want to keep the conversation going, and help you see how your purchases make a world of difference.
So get out your spray paint and put on Revolution by The Beatles. Let's get talking: let's spark a revolution.
